My mom's 60th b-day is in a few months. She has a collection of Blue Willow china that was passed down from her mother. I try to add a piece to it every year. I was think of making her a cake with the Blue Willow pattern on it. I don't have a picture to attach at the moment. How would you go about doing it? Frozen transfer? Royal icing? I was thinking either a really big stacked cake or maybe tiers. I would like the icing to be white with the blue pattern. Can you do a Royal icing transfer?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What a pretty cake that would be! I would definately do it on a fondant covered cake. Those are pretty intricate patterns, can you paint it on? I don't know about the transfers... I've never used them. I'm sure it would be beautiful!

I made a Blue Willow platter for my Mid-Atlantic Cake Show teapot cake. I'm not sure if it's in my gallery yet, but it's on my website.

I painted it on. It's not the best, but pretty darn good for me - I can't paint. icon_wink.gif

Duh, I meant to write that part! I went to the library and got a book on Willow Ware, and then I semi-copied one of the designs. I used sky blue and royal blue to get the two tones. I didn't know anything about painting with food coloring, so I just painted straight on there. It never quite dried, and stayed kind of sticky. I would read up on here about painting with food coloring if I were to do it again.
