Help Please, Center Dowel Not Long Enough! Hurry!

I'm assembling my first wedding cake, 3 tiers stacked. 12" dummy, 9" and 6" rounds. I just stacked the 9" on top of the dummy and checked my dowels and they are too short to go through all 3 layers!! ![]()
What would you do? I have enough dowel length to go through the 12" dummy and the 9". Should I just do that and sit the 6" on top without anything?
Or should I go through the 6" and 9" and only partially into the dummy?
Which do you think would offer the best support?
I have to deliver it in about 2 hours. Thanks.
i always dowel two rods into each two tiers. so for your cake, i would dowel two rods into the 9 and 12 inch. then stack the 6 inch, and dowel two rods into the 6 and 9. i drive my tiered cakes stacked and this keeps them really stable in the car.
Is the dummy secured onto the cake board? If so, I would go through the top, and take it down as far as it will go, into the dummy. That's better than not securing the top at all. If the dummy is stuck on the cake board, it won't go anywhere. Good luck!!
...or I forgot to add - you can put the top cake on when you get there!
Thanks guys.
I'm going to use 2 dowels as suggested above.
Okay, I can breathe now... ![]()
