Can you use saran wrap/plastic wrap on a cake board so the paper on the cake board doesn't soak up the grease from the icing.........or should I use something like a clear contact paper.

I think plastic wrap probably wouldn't stick to the cake board very well.
I have used contact paper or freezer paper to cover.

i use plastic wrap, you just have to tape the underside. I do this esp with cakes for me so I can reuse board later.

I went to the Home Depot and baught a sheet of 1" particle board with that plastic coating (I forgot what they called it) but I also baught some of the plastic edging that is made for it. The edging glues on and looks great. I just cut off a 2' chunk with my circular saw (from the 4'x8' sheet) and cut that in half again and had two 2' x2' pieces. I've cut one into a circle with the jig saw and put the edge on and have a pretty nice and strong 24" circle for my 18" bottom cake on the wedding cake I'm making. It sounds like alot of work but you can also buy smaller pieces and the guy's ay H.D. will cot it down for you. Your husband (for you gals) should make easy work of it. I did. icon_biggrin.gif

I used the glad press n seal...same as smbanda! I love that stuff!! Works great...used it on a practice wedding cake. I wrapped the boards yesterday and they were still sticking properly today when cutting.
