Starting today to make a cake 1 layer choc. one yellow. Discovered I was out of Baker's Joy...that's O.K. I'll go old school with grease and flour 11x15 pan you guessed it - half got stuck. Oh well I've been wanting to try cake balls anyway. I'm not going to give up. go get my Baker's Joy do it all over. This time it comes out of the pan and immediately splits in half! icon_cry.gif I'm really close to just using a cake mix and washing my hands of the whole thing, but tomorrow's a new day and I hope the third time's a charm!! Thanks for letting me rant DH just doesn't "get it."

Try the cake release recipe off this site...it is AWESOME!

1/3 c. vegetable oil
1/3 c. Crisco
1/3 c. flour

I throw it all in a little slicer/dicer/mixer type machine and it turns into a beautiful goo that I keep in my old washed out Wilton Cake Release bottle that has the squeeze top!

I always use parchment paper on the bottom of my pans. It never fails me!

That really is bad cake Karma. I put wax paper or parchment on the bottoms of the pans, and so far so good. I never had much luck with crisco and flour, I know, lots of cooks swear by it, but I had terrible luck. Parchment and wax paper for me. Tomorrow will be a better day! icon_biggrin.gif

Hey Lapazlady?

Doesn't your wax paper melt in the oven? I use parchement and it never fails me, but I always thought wax paper and ovens don't mix...or do you just use it with your non bake cakes?

I use wax paper every time also and it doesn't melt. Works just the same as parchment. thumbs_up.gif (I've used that too) And cheaper!

cakeguru, I've never had a problem with the wax paper melting or burning. So far La Paz doesn't know what parchment paper is. I asked a friend to bring some back from Mexico City and I ended up with several large sheets of, you guessed it, wax paper. So, I tried it and found it quite satisfactory. I do buy a couple of boxes of parchment when I visit the U.S. to use with cookies. Give it a try, it's cheaper and gives good results.

Thank you all for the supportive words. I re did the chocolate layer and it came out.. icon_biggrin.gif so I decided I was on a roll and did the yellow also. I'm copying the cake release recipe to use for the future. Starting on the frosting over the weekend, my poor DD has watched "Fox and the Hound" like 15 times but hopefully things will continue on the right path. You guys rock!! Thanks again!
