Does anyone have a recipe for cut out cookies that will not spread while cooking? I have wonderful recipes for sugar, cream cheese and sour cream cutouts but they don't retain their shape while cooking.
Thanks much........Mary C.
I too would be interested in that recipe. Because everytime I try to do a cut out cookie it looks nothing like the cutter. And some people have cookies posted that they were able to even use the same cutter for fondant to lay on the top. Hope someone has a recipe.

I love this recipe and get tons of compliments on how delicous they are.
sift together:
3 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
cut in 1 c butter till it resembles coarse crumbs
stir in:
1 egg (sightly beaten)
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 T whipping cream
Blend with your hands till all of the dry ingredients are "pressed" into the butter/liquid.
Divide it in half and roll each half out between two sheets of parchment paper (this prevents the addition of flour which toughens your cookie). Pop them into the freezer till firm. Cut and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. (the freezing helps the cookies to keep their shape when you transfer them to the baking sheet. Its the BEST tip ever in cookie making) Bake at 400 degrees F for 5-8 minutes depending on thickness.
I use this recipe and everyone loves it and it holds it shape really well. It's the only one that I have ever used and there are pics in my gallery of my cookies.

Penny's sugar cookie recipe works very well. The cutouts hardly spread during baking and the cookies taste good. Here's the link to the recipe: http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-3993-Pennys-cookies.html
Thanks everyone for the recipe suggestions. I will try them out and let you know how they work!

I use Melissa's recipe - it's the No-fail without the baking powder and with double the vanilla. (It tastes just like cookie dough after it's baked.) I use a highly-flavored buttercream on top as the cookies are very mild. Peanut butter or melted chocolate can be added as part of the butter if you like.
