When planning my wedding a year ago I kept hearing about that kind of fee... I thought it was crazy - I told my mom she should cut it - or I would stand there in my wedding dress & cut it myself! I don't know if we ended up paying a cutting fee or not though - I eventually just decided that my parents were going to pay what they were going to pay for and I should just stay out of some of the smaller details (yeah I know I was lucky they paid for it - but at times I would have fought over some of the stupid details like that - and I COULD have had a smaller wedding..... I would have been fine with that too - oh gosh now I sound like I'm complaining and I'm not trying to - I just thought that a LOT of the charges for stupid things like that were astronimical. And I WOULD have cut my own cake if I knew that we were going to pay someone $5- $8 to slice it - even though I have no idea how to slice a wedding cake - I would have figured it out just to side-step that charge!

I can undestand from the point of the restaurant supplying plates, silverware, etc..... but if it's at a reception hall or something like that - then you're ALREADY paying for the plates & food - so why can they not just cut the cake? It's not like they're going to seperate the plates & silverware used for the dinner from the ones used for dessert are they? Why is it an extra fee? Anyway that's my 2 cents icon_smile.gif

Those of you comparing to Denny's and Indiana's Largest Restaurant might want to browse to tavernonthegreen.com to see where we're talking about.

There is a well know venue here in Dallas that charges $6/ slice fee. People pay it and dont bat an eye. Hey, whatever works.

I charge $50/ hour to stay and cut the cake. (Starting when I leave the house and ending after I clean up on site) No one seems to want to pay that though. icon_redface.gif

Thank you very much for saying that. I couldn't agree more.

Well I dont care if it is an exclusive expensive restaurant or not I think since you are giving them your business they could include it as a service for good customer realtions. I still think that the world is just getting a little too greedy. It was like the thread about should you supply an extra box for the top tier of the cake or have them pay for it and the majority consensus was that you offer it as part of the service as it was not an expensive item and it made good business sense and it also made people want to use your service more. Whatever happend to keep the customer happy and you keep them coming back. It is not costing them anything more to slice a cake and put a bunch of utensils and plate on a table and with the amount of dishes they already have I really dont think that is an issue I think it just all comes down to greed and I for one will not ever pay to have this service I would just invite everyone back to wherever for a slice.

Amen, darcat! Customer relationships and goodwill are more important to the restaurant I work at than $$$. In todays economy, repeat customers that feel like a business owner actually cares about making their visit memorable and affordable are rare and will reap their reward in ways other than the almighty dollar!
