Is there a chart out there that I can find that gives an estimate of servings per cake size?? I'm doing my friends shower cake and would love to get into starting a business eventually but I'm not sure where to start with what size cake would be appropriate for a certain amount of people.

I'm doing a fondant "gift" cake. There are 75 people. I'd like to do a 2 or 3 tier square stacked white fondant with a red fondant bow - very simple cake (hopefully icon_lol.gif ). I'm getting pretty good with the techniques themselves, but I've only made small personal cakes....nothing for a big group yet.

Thanks so much for all of your help!

There are a few different ways to come up with servings. There is a servings chart at: http://www.earlenescakes.com/ckserchart.htm, there are servings charts in the back of any Wilton yearbook (on pg. 109 in the 2006 yearbook, happened to be sitting here next to the computer) or you can determine what serving size you feel is appropriate and draw it out on the bottoms of your pans.

I go by the Wilton party serving sizes, which are 1 1/2" x 2". I had my husband cut a clock of wood to the size of a serving of cake (1.5x2x4" tall). I make sure to show it to my customers when they order, so they know what I'm going by. That gives them the option of ordering more cake if they want to serve bigger pieces. It is a lot easier for me to be consistent that way.

I made my own serving charts for both wedding and party servings. I think I offer a little more cake than Wilton or Earlene, about 2x2x4 for party size, which people seem to prefer. So using my chart I would do either a 12in & 8in square (78 servings), or a 10in. 8in & 6in square (80 servings). Hope that helps!

Great Idea Momsandraven thumbs_up.gif - I just got another "huney do" project icon_lol.gif . I might even decorate and put on a plate just so they can see it as a piece of cake and not a block of wood.

Love getting great ideas on this site icon_biggrin.gif
