I delivered a cake today that I was paid $300 to make, and it had FAR less detail work involved. I say, AT LEAST $300...I'd charge more.

OMG that is one beautiful cake !!!! I'm a cheapo lol but even I would pay 300 for that, but I guess it depends on where you live. I know in some cities you could get way more than 300. Wow I cant stop looking at it lol I love the way the sea horses and star fish are 3 dimensional it's just all around great.

I should add that the cake pictured is NOT MY CAKE. The bride provided this picture. I didn't know what to quote, so I did $6.25 per person (50 people)...comes to 312 and some odd change. I think I under quoted. But hey, 300 beans is 300 beans. I have little mouths to feed and a shopping habit to support =0)

Definitely worth at least $300.

Considering the very cute cake is for only 50 people, it might only be a 3",6" and 9" / or 4", 7", 10" cake, depending if there will be other desserts. Or, if we are not talking monster slices. and thus, less work! thumbs_up.gif

Since the cake is smaller, the harder part(for me anyway) of baking and making sure the fondant is smooth, won't be as bad as a 6", 9" 12" cake and worth your time - though next time you could charge more icon_wink.gif

I live on an island so a lot of the brides around here go for themes just like the one you posted. I have seen cakes like this one go for $700 to $900. I suppose it also depends on your client base. I personaly would not pay $900 for a cake, but my jaw dropped when I saw the pic and realized you were only charging $300.

How long will this cake take you to complete?

I think is worth more than that. Around here, for a fondant cake, with couple of decorations, nothing out of this world, the cheapest price is $3.75 per serving.

for the size tiers in the photo, i would say 375-450. that is 4-5 dollars per serving. as long as you can match the quality of detailing, i think you quoted a very good price for yourself. for only 50 servings, the tiers will be much smaller than that of the photo (as clarisse said also). so, at 6.25 per serving, you did very well actually. if she agreed, great!

I agree with everyone that said, "over $300".....way over. And it also depends on the flavor and filling.....so you want to get as many details before quoting a price on a cake in the future.

I learned that the hard way on the wedding I did in April. The hawaiian wedding cake recipe alone was nearly $500.00 just for the indredients! And then there was the flowers, etc... I found out I had under charged by half......icon_sad.gif

I charged her $800.00 and should have charged $1500.00. A good idea if you don't know, is to check around at your local decorator supply stores, and of course the CC, before giving the quote. You will probably be very glad you did!
