Anyone Out There Use Icing Fruit?

So, I've heard a little about Icing fruit. Can anyone tell me if this is similar to the filling sleeves as far as not having to refrigerate the cake? I was thinking of possibly using it in a filling mixed with frosting for a strawberry cake but I don't know if it will need refrigeration. Also, where do you order this from? I looked at Sugarcraft and they have it but their shipping seems a bit high. Thanks so much for any help......
No, the stuff in the sleeves is filling. Icing fruit is highly concentrated fruit and juice, and comes in a jar. You only need a little bit in a batch of BC to flavor it.
There are other sources out there - try www.countrykitchensa.com - they sell it. Call them and ask them what their shipping is for an item such as this.

Thanks Playingwithsugar. Have you ever added it to your cake mix? Also, my concern was that if I used it in the icing, would my cake need to be refrigerated? If it doesn't need to be refrigerated I was thinking also about adding just a touch of it to my strawberry sleeve filling to add a bit more flavor to it. I'm not totally crazy about the strawberry sleeve filling and I thought that maybe I could doctor it a little with the icing fruit. What do you think??????
I have not used it in cake batter, but I have added the banana flavor to homemade ice cream. It is a yum.
I refrigerate open jars of icing fruit, but I bring them to room temperature before using.

butternut, I was just talking to a lady that has a bakery (also where I take some classes) and she said they had not added it to icing because it is so highly concentrated it would probably make it taste almost bitter? They just use the sleeve fillings for that. I did make a cake today using the banana fruit ice and it was delicious!! I think I'll fill it with a strawberry filling and ice it with SMBC. Let me know if you get different results
It's really weird. I've got like 4 different cake decorating supply stores in my area and NONE of them sell the Icing Fruit. They look at me like I'm crazy. It's probably too late to order any online at this point so I'm going to have to try something else. I did inquire with Sugarcraft about the Icing Fruit and they had no idea what I was talking about but yet it is on their site. Hmmmm. Anyway, thanks to all for your help. I really do appreciate it.
I use Icing Fruit all the time. I buy it by the 8 pound bucket. From white cake batter I can make:
Almond white cake (batter + almond extract)
Strawberry cake (batter + strawberry icing fruit)
Lemon cake (batter + lemon icing fruit)
Orange cake (batter + orange icing fruit)
From chocolate batter I can make:
Chocolate raspberry cake, chocolate orange cake, and of course chocolate almond cake.
It is fab stuff!
I buy from a supplier (Dawn) that tends to carry only larger sizes of supplies. However, I used to buy all nine of the icing fruit flavors from CK. Then I could make raspberry cake, and cherry cake, and pineapple cake, and banana cake, and on and on.
It really sounds good and I'm really surprised that none of the local cake decorating suppliers carry it. Actually, I did find one that said that they used to carry it but no one purchased it so they stopped selling it ![]()
Oh well, looks like I'm just going to add some white chocolate and some LorAnn strawberry flavoring to my cake mix and see what happens. I really don't want to use a strawberry cake mix because I don't want the cake to be pink. It's for a baby shower and the theme is "It's a Boy". ![]()

That sounds great! Icing fruit could actually save you from making lots of extra cake when you need/want serveral flavors, but in small quanities .
