Not sure how others do them but this is how I make mine.
I use the daisy cutter. Cut out lots of layers. Stack the layers leaving the petals long on the outside layers, cut the petals short for the inside layers. Then I use petal dust to color them with. Centers use yellow petal dust along with a little cornmeal to give them a realistic look.
I made them for a bridal shower cake I made Its in my photos the 3 seperate tiers with the ribbon on it.. and as much as they were time consuming if you have the right mold they werent that bad..I searched as for trying to buy them like forever and couldnt find them anywhere.. How many do you need to make. I know stewart (somebody) I have his name saved.. quoted me a price of I think 8-12 dollars per daisy.. and that didnt include shipping he is in NY and they dont really ship well so you have to order extra so I opted not to go with him although he makes the most georgous flowers ever!! I hope this info was helpful let me know if you need more help..
Thanks for the tips! I have until November to make them, so I figured I'd better give myself lots of time. I want to start practicing, I'll have to start shopping for the cutters and/or molds.
No way can I afford those prices!! I'll need at least a dozen and the cake is going to be a gift, so I need to keep my expenses reasonable.
Thanks again for the help. For some reason, all I could think of was making each individual petal!!
I got mine from Globalsugararts.com its a sunflower/daisy mold and it came with 2 sizes large for the outer petals and small for the inner petals it was nice because it even left the imprint on the petal.. when you layer them just make sure to offset each layer. I did 3 of the large then 3 of the small for each flower. with the yellow centers and pricked my centers with a tooth pick to make the effect. then I rolled up teeny tiny pieces of plastic wrap into little balls and strategicly placed them under certain leaves so when they dried some of the leaves would be lifted so the flower would not be so flat and lifeless..I think they came out pretty good just dont forget to remove the plastic wrap when they dry.. good luck.. we want to see pictures..

Here is what I do to get a clean cut: Cut the paste and press the plunger to get the impression on the petals. With the paste still in the cutter, turn it over so you can see the paste and run your thumb against the cutter, for all petals. That will clean out the excess paste.
