I am new to cake decorating and this board. I have to make cupcakes for my granddaughter's pre-school. What tip do I use to get that store bought swirl look. I am going to be adding ring picks in each cupcake. I know this is a very simple question Thanks for your time.

Hi there and welcome to CC! I use the tip 1M for those nice bakery swirls. Best of luck to you and welcome to your new addiction thumbs_up.gif

I use a 1M, which is a large star, or a tip 21 (fits the regular coupler). Just start on the outside and make the circle smaller and smaller as you come in. If you want more of a rose swirl look, start in the middle and work your way out. (See Wilton Course 2 rosettes).

If you're putting them on a board, figure out the pattern, then put a dab of icing on the bottom to hold them in place, ice them, then put on the sprinkles, airbrush, color spray, etc.

For example, even without an airbrush, you can color the icing orange, put it in a circle pattern, then draw basketball lines. Soccor balls just make every 3rd one or so black. A butterfly can have pink wings (several cupscakes all lined up together in an oval) and a yellow row down the middle. If you do them in ice cream cake cones, then swirl up the top and add sprinkles, they look like cones instead of cake. Have fun!
