This is going to sound really lame, but I'm using Toba's Glace for the 1st time and it's kinda runny. Are you supposed to put it in a bag or just drizzle it on? And how do you keep it from running off of the cookie either way? Is it supposed to be so translucent (I haven't tried coloring it yet but it just looks so clear)?

yes you can put it in a back to apply it just like you would royal icing.. yes, it's supposed to be translucent like that.. you can add coloring and if you outline the cookie first (the thicker version) it won't run off...

OK, this stuff is just a mess. I added more PS and it's still leaking all over the place. When you said to outline in the thicker version did you mean w/RI or w/added PS? I'm so confused!! Y'all should see my kitchen. There's purple everywhere. It looks like Barney threw up in it!

when you first make it.. it should be thick.. you thin it down from there..since yours is already thin...you need to add more powdered sugar.. but, not to all of it.. just take maybe 1/4 of it and add the sugar to that. and leave the rest to use for your flooding/filling in..

Gotcha, thanks. I'm going to try it right now. I'm not sure why it turned out so runny to begin with. I guess I just need to make it a few more times! I appreciate the help.

When you mix the powdered sugar with the milk (or water) it should be a VERY thick paste. Then you add the corn syrup, about the same amount as you did the milk. You can add 5 drops or so of brite white food coloring for every cup of powdered sugar you used. It makes the icing nice and white, and it keeps the icing from splotching or crackling if it gets cold.

To make it easier on yourself and contain the mess, consider putting the thinner flooding icing in a squeeze bottle. You will have more control than the icing bag.

I too tried the Toba's glaze and instead of putting the icing in a bag, I uses a small spatula and spread on the base coat then I used a thicker glaze to pipe on details.

I just saw this in another forum - I will definitely try this. I think it will cut down on the mess factor a ton. I finally got the icing a bit thicker by adding more PS & sticking it in the frige for a while. Thanks everyone for all of your helpful suggestions.

I like GeminiRJ's idea too of adding the white food coloring because it looked kinda murky. I imagine that would help when you add other colors eventually - maybe the colors would be more brilliant?????
