I was thinking about having a small birthday party for my daughter (she'll be 7) and having some of her friends over to decorate little cakes to take home with them. What size cake would you recommend? Also, where could I purchase a small number of them at a low cost?

I appreciate the help!!!

I would say maybe 4 inches? Or even a couple of cupcakes for each girl. If you need a cheap solution for pans, you could get those little tin disposable pans like what frozen pot pies are in.
Just my ideas!

Reynolds has come out with some really neat disposable pans in shapes. They sell them with the paper muffin cups in the baking aisle at most stores.
