I am hoping to make a pair of baby shoes out of fondant for a friend's baby shower cake....end of September.
I didn't know how to make them so I took a pattern from my old Sew Beatiful magazine in order to shape them.
I cut them out of fondant and tried putting them together...I did a pie edge thingy where the sole and upper shoe join...any other suggestions? The boot I will attach to this message is just the first practice one so I can try and get this right..
I stuffed it with Kleenex because I didn't know what else to do..it was folding in on itself...I know it looks bumpy and crude so please, please send suggestions.
I think this might be Ok at some point once I get the wrinkles ironed out!
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi,
I never did a shoe, but I think it's just fine stuffing it with tissue..It should sart to get hard soon, and then you can get the wrinkles out..I will bump you up..Maybe look in the gallery, and PM someone who did one, ask them how they did it..
Good luck!!

I don't know if it would work better but how about using large cotton balls to stuff the booties?

in the instructions i followed, they said either tissue or cotton ball. i didn't have to use any, as mine dried so quickly!! i formed them, and of course i had forgotten to prepare tissues, and when i came back, the booties were almost dry, so i just fixed up the shape and they came out beautifully! enjoy icon_cool.gif

Janek,
Did you use just sugarpaste or sugarpaste + gumpaste 50/50?

I made them many years ago with just gumpaste and they dried in a jiffy, but I have read 50/50 is used for cut out standup shapes.

Thanks for the tips/advice...my shoes were total fondant and worked out very well. I am putting them on the shower cake for this Sunday. When it is done, I will post pic.
Very exciting...I have been tempted to paint them in luster dust but I think I will leave them alone and not experiment this close to the shower.
Wish me luck...I am a little nervous but excited. Making this cake for a friend of a friend.

I use cotton balls to shape my baby shoes and it always works out well.

My problem is stuffing them too much and that the tongue turns out too high for the laces. I've never had children so I couldn't remember all the little details about baby shoes.

also, coat the cotton balls with cornstarch...or else they will stick to the inside of the bootie.
