Hi,
I was asked to do a wedding shower cake and was given this picture..Does anyone know what type of flowers these are? They look like a lily?? I have no clue. Also, do they look real to you guys? Is there a way to make these out of fondant/gumpaste? Or should I just tell the girl to get her own flowers for the cake??
Thanks so much in advance,
Michelle
I believe they are orchids. Are you looking for the particular variey as well..... I'd have to look that one up.
Those are cymbidium orchids; they come in many colors:

They look fresh (real) to me, but Shirley W's gumpaste orchids can give fresh a run for their money. ![]()

You guys are the best!! Thanks so much, for the life of me I had no idea! Are they hard to make? I've only made roses and daisies so far.
Thanks again !

Here's a tutorial on Asian/Oriental Lilies:

You would, of course, use different cutters....

Jan you are the best! Thanks so much for the wonderful links, I really do appreciate it! ![]()
Thank you!

These are Cymbidium Orchids. The ones pictured appear to be real, bit if you want gum-paste ones, try and get hold of a Nicholas Lodge book - he makes beautiful flowers with clear instructions. If you do an image search on Google with "cymbidium", you'll see some amazing colours! Be warned, though, they are VERY time consuming - unless you're quite experienced, fresh may be the best option
