Fondant/rolled Buttercream What Is The Difference?

What is the difference between fondant and rolled buttercream? Is it just the taste? Does it work the same?
Fondant has no or very little shortening/fat.
Rolled Buttercream, like buttercream frosting uses shortening/fat.
