When we moved to OK our clothes dryer was taking forever to dry the clothes. It turned out the the dryer vent went from the wall to the attic, then it would bend and vent to the outside. The vent was totally clogged... I don't know how the previous owner dryed any clothes... I don't know if this might be what is causing your problem but it is worth checking.

Is the drier heating up?? If it is and its just not turning, try replacing your belt. Along with cleaning the vent behind it, clean it inside too. There is alot that the screen doesn't catch.

Try this website! It has a section called "repair guru" that will ask you questions and help you figure out what's wrong, and offer information on how to fix it:

We just did repairs on an exterior wall and had to take down the vinyl eaves - guess what we found - the vent for our dryer. It was the same kind you have. e've been here for 4 years now and never new about it!!! I couldn't figure why my 1 year old dryer took 2 cycles to dry?!?!

Anyway, if the drum's not spinning, the belt could be going bad. They're not too difficult to change - I believe we found instuctions on the GE website.

Clogged dryer tubing can cause electrical fires that will burn your house down. The best way to vent your dryer is out through the wall of your home...not the roof. My dryer fried itself because it was getting too hot. I now have to turn on a fan and open the door to the laundry room to keep it from happening again. I also need to pull that silver tubing out into the garage instead of up through the celing.

Unfortunately, the only way for our vent is to go up through the roof. Otherwise, we'd have tubing going through a room. Now, every couple of months, we have some copper wire that we stick up in the vent to loosen anything and then put the blower (that you would use to blow leaves with) on one end and blow any lint out. It's a pain, but I don't want any fires!!!

I know we are very lucky to have not had a fire from this. Our inspector totally missed it and being our "first" house, well we just didn't know we had to look out for that. Trust me, that won't happen again!!
