I need help from anyone from England. My daughter is in a summer camp for soccer and the 2 coaches are from England. They are just the 2 nicest guys and the kids adore them. The one said he was home sick for "food from home". They are having an end of camp party tomorrow night and I would like to bake something "traditional" or something they may not get here in the States that they get there.

ANYTHING would help - I have NO ideas!!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

HELP!!!!!!! Thank You!

Parkin
(traditional north of England cake)
2 c flour
2 t baking powder
2 t ginger
1/2 cup sugar (optional)
1 cup oats
1 cup milk
1/3 cup margarine
1 cup molasses and honey mixed (in England this would be treacle and golden syrup)

Mix together the flour, baking powder, and ginger as well as sugar if desired. Soak oats in milk for 1/2 hour. Melt margarine and add molasses and honey. Combine wet ingredients and add to dry. Pour into a 9" x 11" pan. Bake at 325F for 45 minutes or until it starts to come away from the sides of the pan.

I'm getting more ideas for you...... chocolate cake with either chocolate buttercream filling and icing sugar dusted on top, or just plain buttercream filling.

Just one word of advice, if you make a cake with buttercream do NOT use crisco! We only use all-butter buttercream in the UK.

Let us know what you decide to make!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!

I made a chocolate cake with butter cream (all butter!) and torted it - so there were lots of layers, then dusted with with the 10x sugar. I cut a soccer ball pattern out of paper so it was like a stencil.

The two coaches loved it!!!!!! One said "just like my mum made!" Guess it was good! Thanks to all my CC friends for help - wish I had more time to do more traditional baking! He said he will be back next year - I will be prepared!
