I am about to bake a 12 X 18 sheet cake, and a Wilton Football Cake.
I will then place the football cake on top of the 12 X18. This is my first big cake project. Any suggestions/tips?

When I use the 12x18 pan, I always use 3 mixes, baking strips, 325 degrees, grease-only-no-flouring-the-pan. Just putting the footbal cake on top is like having a 2-layer cake, so I wouldn't see any dowels or anything being necessary. (See my motorcycle wedding cake in my pics .... same premise .... a sheet cake with a motorcycle cake on top. No cardboard and no dowels holding it .... and I drove it 5 hours to the wedding.)

lmao.... I was about to make 5 mixes for that pan.

I would have had a TON of extra cake mix!!

Thank you so much for your reply...

One quick question- I've read about using a heating core, do I need to do that?

Some CC'ers swear by them and use them in anything over a 10". I've never used them or the flower nail thing and mine turn out just fine.
