Just wondering about these cakes as I had never heard of them before coming on this site. How did this tradition start and why? I thought the wedding cake was for the bride and groom since it is a wedding cake not a bride's cake which means it involves both him and her. So does this mean there should be 3 cakes one for him one for her and one for them? lol just curious.
froming reading on here--it's said that it's a southern trad.--see as i'm from FL---i didn't know until coming here that people DIDN'T do them---haha
i know that doesn't really help--
it use to be that the bride picked out "the cake" & the groom's cake was geared towards what flavor he likes
I couldn't say where the tradition began without some research...but it is really more for the groom to express who he is. His favorite flavor and decorated however HE wants...to reflect his personality, interest or hobbies. I've done them in the state football team theme to gothic! Anything goes! I like the idea; usually the bride does all of the cake decisions and this is something just for him to take part in. ![]()
it's definately a southern thing, there's only two cakes, wedding cake is the "bride's cake", and the grooms cake is usually his favorite cake like chocolate, or red velvet or even cheesecake or pie, i've read that it was done in early American weddings and has kind of went away everywhere else but the South, it sort of double the business in a way for us decorators down south!
