What is the best way to make the ribbons that loop on cakes? Like this border here:

And also to come off of the top of the cake.

Thanks!

I use wooden dowels for mine. You can find all shapes at home depot. I just dust mine with powder sugar before placing the fondant around them..
It's Simple. Cut your strips and then fold it around the wooden dowel. Let them set until firm.
Get creative, if you dont have wooden dowels handy.. You can probably use anything round. like a pencil, LOL I'm looking around my house for ideas.. A pool stick? (after a good cleaning) uh.. wooden utensils.. Unlimited.. Just look around.. Good Luck!

You can use a broom handle, long wooden spoon handle, closet rod.

If you don't want to fiddle with the dowel, you can just form the loop freehand and lay it on it's side to dry.

If you do use a dowel (my preference), you only need to leave the loops hanging on the dowel until they're firm enough to stand up on their sides without wilting - an hour or two.

OK, Thanks!

How about the ones that come out from a cake? How long do you have to let them dry so that they do not collapse?
