Hello, welcome to the site!

I dont have a complete "list",
but i do have a few things I was thinking of...

SInce your taking the wilton classes, be sure to buy everything they use in those classes as they are the most basic tools and the one you will use most often. Everything else can be bought as needed and as you are able to afford icon_smile.gif

Good luck!

I just want to say buy quality pans and by quality I mean Magic Line. I would recommend a 9x13 and 11x15 and 2 8x2 rounds to start. Along with the supplies you use in your class.

Good luck and make sure you post your cakes!

make a wish list, and then start using 40% off coupons from Michaels, JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby or whatever craft store you have....and if you have Michaels...you probably know there is a 50% off coupon good today! I am heading back there myself.

I just add one thing at a time using those coupons...

I found purchasing the Wilton tool box with 101 or so pieces in it was a great value. If you use the 40% off coupon at Michael's it was an even better value. This is a good starting base which can be added to as you go on. A Kitchenaid mixer is also a good to start with. Your hand held mixers won't hold up. Also, invest in some good quality baking racks and pans.

here is a basic list other than the mixer. thats a pretty big item.

cake pans.....i LOVE wilton pans. The performance pans and character pans. I dont like the magic line looking ones that wilton offers. Not for regular cake but they are good for fruit cake.

Disposable piping bags....ateco ones work very well and last long too. you dont have to throw them away after the first use.

decorating tips... writing tips, leaf tips, star tips, rose tips. all the others are secondary atleast for me. Couplers also.

Spatulas, angled spatulas for icing the cake.

Long serrated knife of cake leveler, which ever is easy for you.

thats a basic list. oh yes...flower nails if you are going to do roses.

edible printer and edible sheets.

get DUPLICATES of the most used tips. I have duplicate rose tips for when I'm making different colored roses; duplicate star tips for borders, fill-ins, .... I did a red/white/blue border with stars and had 3 bags of diff colored icing each with the same tip ..... WAY easier than switching the tip all the time! Duplicate writing tips for writing, outlining, dots, etc. Having all those bags of different colored icing with their own tips is so much more efficient (and I'm too embarrassed to tell you how many years it took me to figure THIS one out!) icon_redface.gificon_rolleyes.gif

I just read where someone suggested storing duplicate tips on top of each other....I had never thought of that...and I will about full in my little tool box...now I am going back and stacking up like tips.
