Ok, am I the only one who can't seem to make "perfect" dots out of buttercream?? Everytime I try, no matter the consistency of my buttercream, I end up with nipples. Does anyone have tips on how to get rid of these?

I want to know too - here's a "bump"

Key here is "no matter the consistency of my buttercream". It happens to me even with pretty thin BC. Yes, and I also try to keep my tip buried in the BC before I stop pressure then lift and that still doesn't work. What is my problem?

bump! I always have to go back and smooth them out! Is that just what you have to do?

Ok....first...I have to say that I about died when I read "nipples" (I've been around little kids all day, maybe it rubbed off). Second, I have the same problem too. I am just starting out so I chalk mine up to inexperience, but I would love to know how to do it with out them looking like Hershey Kisses.

When I took Wilton method, we were taught to pipe the dot, then make a circle with the tip to prevent nipples. Although this usually works for me, there are occasions where I get tired or lose patience, and I find myself getting lazy (no reflection on any of you). I take a soft brush dipped in very warm water (not hot) and blotted, then tamp down the nipple with the brush as soon as I am done piping. Do not let it crust or, of course, it will crack. Dots dry quickly, so do it as soon as you are done piping that dot.

Try it and let me know if it helps.

I have the same problem. I'm just too impatient to make pipe them perfectly. I fix them by dipping my finger in a little bit of powdered sugar and gently smoothing them in. It works great for me.

well, when i do dots, i just wait until they get a little dry, you know, not tacky but not crusty and just push the "nipples" down with my finger, its always worked for me, and they look smooth, if you want to look they are several pictures in my photo album of cakes with dots!
