I want to make a flip flop cake for my friend's daughter and thought I'd get your advice before jumping into it. So, for those of you who make this I would appreciate your advice. I don't have a lot of time to work on it so I have to get it right the first time.

Thanks

bake sheet cake and cut out the flip flop using pattern (there's one in the sketches/patterns/templates gallery)

now...if you bake a big enough sheet you can get both left and right out of one sheet.

and depending upon size of sheet

can get double layer for each out of one sheet -- just scale the pattern so it takes up about 1/4 the size of the sheet. (divide cake in half in both directions for best shape) cake carved away can become "beach (cake) balls"

cut, fill, stack, and ice / fondant away.

I am doing this cake for the fist time too, my question is if I stack it onto another cake, how do I get cake boards?

use the pattern you used for cutting the cakes to cut regular cake boards to the same shape
