can anyone explain to me the difference between petal dust, luster dust, etc...?? I'm looking for something I can thin and paint on fondant. where can I buy these? do they have them at Michael's, AC Moore, etc., or do I have to buy them online?

thanks.

here we go --

Petal dust -- opaque color, no shine, used for color and shadow. Does not reflect light.

Luster dust -- shiny color, used for enhancing, coloring, and highlighting. Reflects light.

Pearl dust -- irridescent fine-grained powder, used for highlighting. Highly reflective.

Sparkle dust -- has larger particles of reflective powder. (not to be confused with Wilton Cake Sparkles).

Pixie dust or Disco Dust - has even larger particles of reflective powder. Looks like metalflake paint when applied.

Gold or Silver dust -- 23-24Karat gold or sterling silver dust.

All of the above can be combined with alcohol or lemon extract and painted.

Whether you are painting or dusting, steam the item for 2-3 seconds to ensure adherence of dust. I have a clothing steamer I use for this.

These items are not available in my local AC Moore or Michaels, and I doubt they ever will be, since they are not Wilton products. I cannot vouch for others. I purchase mine locally, online, or when I go to New York City.

by the way...what is the shimmer dust for that Michael's sells? I think it is Wilton.

I have used the Cake Sparkles with great success, but I have not yet tried the smaller jars of dust that they sell.

Has anyone out there tried them?
