I want to have a cookie decorating party... what is the best way to go about doing that? Is everything pre-made? and..what about sending home with guests....? how are they divided up and who gets whos cookies? Anything would be helpful.

thanks!

I would have most of the work pre done. Spend more time decorating that way. Divide up the cookies so everyone gets the same amount, and let them take home the ones that they decorated themselves. Let us know how it goes.

wow--funny u posted this--i want to ask my DD kinder teacher about having one at school for them--someone let me know how crazy i am--5 & 6 yr olds

i plan on having all sugar cookies baked & all icing ready & in bags--in order to do this, it will take alot of bags & tips (because they are kids & they won't all be sitting at the same table)

i've also always wanted to ddo the cookie exchange--everyone brings X number of cookies with recipe & everyone exchange recipes, eats cookies & tea/coffee/punch---packages up a few of each kind of cookies to take home.

We do the exchange at Christmas time. If there are 5 people coming then everyone will make 6 dozen cookies. I dozen for each of the guests and one to eat there. Each dozen comes with the recipe for them to take home and everyone makes a different kind. example 6 dozen cc cookies. Makes a wonderful variety for the holiodays.

this is what i'm talking about--only i could see telling my MIL to bring 6 dozen (or more) cookies icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif she's think we only needed 1 a piece to eat there & 1 to take home icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif --this is one of the reasons i haven't had one yet icon_rolleyes.gif --i'm gonna get brave & maybe try it this year

daltonam--

That is a great idea. We do those at the store where I do kid's BD cake decorating BD parties. Some cookies I have white royal icing (made in advance and frozen until I need them). Give them food coloring pens and let them create. They love this.

We also give them bags with frosting. Another idea is to get plastic ice trays and cut in half (six compartments each), fill each compartment with candies and sprinkles for them to put on the cookies. This is popular but also tell them if they eat the candy, they don't get any more for the cookies.

We do the cookie swap, too. This will be my 7th year for hosting one. One year, I made a door wreath with the tin cookie cutters-CUTE!!!, but lost my directions. I also have a small tree in my kitchen that is decorated with cookie ornaments or baking ornaments.
