I too was skeptic at first but know I won't bake without them - my cake used to come out alittle domed and I'd end up cutting about and an inch or more off. Not anymore, they're seriously worth the investment.......just make sure you soak them throughly before us.

Happy Baking. thumbs_up.gif

Ditto what they said. Worth every penny, but I bought mine with a discount cupon at Michaels.

I have made my own. After using the bake even strips for a long time, they started falling apart. I cut some quilted cotton and use that. Many people have reported they use terry cloth (old towels). Make them thick. fold them once or twice lengthwise and run a stitch through. Also, forget the pins! I use binder clips and keep them close to the corners of each edge of the pan and they work wonderfully!

What a great idea, I never thought of making my own. But the ones at Michael's has that silver material, does that help to distribute the heat? Just a thought; Is it possible to make the strips out of a pair of silver oven mitts?

The silver material is like an ironing board cover. That's what ended up getting all crackly on mine! I have read in this forum some people thought they smelled while baking; though I never had that experience. I also thought they were harder to get wet than nice cotton or terry cloth. Make you own! Save your money!
