ok here is the story. I get my edible images printed at a local bakery. (until i buy my own) well... i was always fidling to remove it from the backing. i had always read on here to put it in the freezer for a bit. i never did it, i was reluctant. well i had to do 9 cakes with edible images so i tried the freezer with a corner and guess what???? IT WORKED!!!!

Plus my mom said she would buy me the printer and the stuff so I can do my own. icon_smile.gif lucky me.

So you put the images in the freezer and they peel off easier? How long do you leave it in the freezer?

i put them in the freezer for 10 min or so....my kitchen gets really hot when i bake...the first transfer i put in for 2 min and it was fine. but the other ones needed more time to freeze up.... the paper backing comes right off. i also noticed that when the transfer is frozen you can place it easier on the cake interms of alignment. its way cool.

I freeze mine too just for about 5 minutes or so and find they work much better and easier to handle. However, you have to be careful that you don't crack them as I did on my last one. I put it together as best as I could on the cake but I could still see the crack. I love edible imaging now that I can do it at home. Money well spent!

thanks for the tip !! I'm making my first cake with an edible image next week and I'm a little nervous (it's the Disney Princesses cake). Any more tips anyone can give on doing edible images would be greatly appreciated !!! Should I buy two of the images in case I screw up the first one? I can always use it on another cake.

The first edible image I purchased I bought two, however, the lady who did them for me told me I didn't need to. She gave me the second one free which I appreciated. Turned out I didn't need it anyway and I had no use for it on any other cake. However, if you can use the second image on another cake, I say go for it. They are usually repairable if damaged or most times, you can cover any mishaps with icing. Now that I have my own system I don't have to worry so much. I love doing edible imaging. I actually had to do a Curious George picture on a cake and ended up taking a colouring page off the internet, colouring the picture with pencils and printing the edible image from that. I was able to use the colours I wished and everything turned out great. I'm hoping to be able to use the edible images when I have to make an LV cake design in buttercream. Good luck to you. You'll learn to love edible imaging.

I'm excited about doing my first edibel image (I wrote a few days ago about doing the first one this coming week). I can't wait. Isn't this all SO FUN ??? I think I've found my nitch in life (really). I ENJOY baking and cake decorating so much.

I would love to hear more from any of you that own your own printer for edible images. I know I can learn more from you than anyone else. There are so many knowledgeable people here !!! I'd love to know what type of printer you have (Canon?) What model. About how much did you pay for everything that you needed to get started (if you don't mind me asking). Anyone bought one on e-bay or should we always buy new? I would love to know more !!! I wanna play, too !!! icon_smile.gif

i am researching mine at the moment. amazon has an ip6000d printer for 89 dollars. the ink and sheets at icing images are basically the same price at kopykake. still am researching though.

Don't buy used unless it's only been printing with edible inks. Not food safe~~~ SO THEY SAY. My husband says that's garbage. He says you flush out any residual ink with the new ink..................I did't take the risk.
