Leaves Or No Leaves, That Is The Question.

So my sister has changed her mind about the wedding cake again. ![]()

Now she doesn't want the cakes stacked, she wants 4 seperate cakes, each covered with the gerber daisy's. SO now i have to make 4x as many flowers as before. Actaully, a hell of a lot of flowers, since i'm covering a 14,10,8 and 6 with gerbers, as opposed to just a 6.
So anyway, i'm thinking with all these flowers on the cakes, should probalby have some leaves, right? But what the heck kind of leaves would you pair with gerber daisy's? Buttercream or fondant? Or is it better to just have no leaves at all? All 4 cakes will have different color flowers, and unfortunately, one is lime green. What leaves go with a lime green flower?? ![]()

Hmmm maybe just regular grass green would go with them..hang in there
i just did a quick gallery search for "gerber" and several cakes came up. Looks like most of them do not have leaves, but a couple do. You might want to do the same search to get an idea of what they look like.
Good luck with all those flowers!

Jennifer,
I don't want to open a can of worms here
, but have you considered inviting your sister over and letting her "help" or at least WATCH
you make say-5 or 6 flowers?!? Maybe when she realizes just how much patience, time, and effort goes into each PETAL ![]()
she'd reconsider her cake ![]()
Noboby who doesn't "do" cakes gets how much we put into them...
just my two cents worth.....
I have a cake with gerbera's in my photos (bridal shower) what a pain in the but.. and I only made a few cuz they mixed with other flowers But my point is that I didnt attach any leaves to my Gerbera's only the Roses..OOHHH I feel the pain Gerbera's are so time consuming..Good luck

What a great idea. I love it, then maybe she will go back to her orignal plan.
I would put a few leaves in just to introduce another color and to break up the color flow of the daisies. The leaves can be a surprise element in the overall design. I would make them medium size so as not to overwhelm or take away from the flowers. A few can add that nice touch and sparkle, but this is just my thinking. Let us see the finished cake.
Guess I'd better look and be sure I know what a Gerber daisy is before throwing in my 2 cents...lol. Now that I am sure what one looks like-guess I was thinking or something else. I wouldn't put leaves or stems on them...and like the idea of her coming over and seeing exactly what envolved with making one of those flowers..can't wait to see the finish cake= good luck
They aren't too hard, just time consuming and a big PITA trying to get them formed right so they fold over, then dry, then add the next layer, and so on. It's just annoying.
I have seen the stem cake from Diane's Cakes and More. Totally cute, but unfortunately not what she has in mind. Oh well. Probably no leaves.
Is this sort of what you were looking for?

Sounds like your sister and my niece are related! I am doing (my first) a wedding cake for her in late August, and she wants gerbera daisies, too. Also the colors are watermelon and lime green. So the cake will be IMBC alternating those two colors, and placing gerbera daisies on top outer edge, then I am also placing varying sizes of smaller daisies between the gerberas and also down the top of the sides, if this makes sense. I am making the daisies various colors of pink, and orange (the colors of the daisies in her bouquet). It sounds odd, but I am hoping it will all come together like it is in my head! So many to make, which I why I started several weeks ago. Have fun!
This photo helped me get the inspiration for her cake:
