I am trying to start my own business, but have found out that it is a lot more involved than it was originally presented to me by my local Health Department. I have seen many talk about renting kitchen space, and am wondering how you went about locating the space to rent. Did you just call the restaurant or rec center? What type of contracts etc.....

Yeah it is a serious endeavour- not just about getting health insurance and a licence- you have to have a commercially inspected /approved kitchen.

common places in your town that rent out their commercial kitchens to private or commercial individuals:
CAnadian or AMerican Legion
Churches
Community halls
Community Centre

If you're DBA cake decorator and using the sub-rental for this purpse, you need to check with legalities re insurance- as subrentals are different scenarious when dealing with insurance, compared to working out of your own commercially approved kitchen.

Also can check out some catering companies, see if they lease out their space.

Ask around at local events, groups that meet and put together events/fundraisers and find out where they go. Word of mouth is good that way icon_smile.gif

some larger centers have 'commercial kitchen co-ops' (there's one in los angeles called chefskitchens I think)

lots of really helpful information on 'foodservice.com' - good site to bookmark!

Good luck
