Hi everyone,

I just had to sit down for a while and stay away from the kitchen at least for 20 minutes. My feet hurt!!!! and I feel sleepy already.
I have 5 party cakes for tomorrow! icon_confused.gif
I've been up since 6 am, had to go to Norfolk, my DH drove through the storm (ERNESTO) !!!!!! It was scary but we made it back home safe.
I've been baking since we got back,...... bake, bake, bake,...... prepare fillings, mix, mix and mix frosting like crazy!

I am a newby doing this. Most of the time I had 1 or 2 cakes every weekend, not more. This is my first time with a lot of work, it seemed like everybody wanted cakes tomorrow.

How much work do you have tonigh?

I did 3 cakes (1 was a doll cake) and 18 decorated cupcakes-not a bad day! It's always great to rest your feet for awhile!

I only have 4 but 2 are to feed 100+. This is my slow weekend before the shit hits the fan. I average 9-12 cakes a weekend and for the next 2 weeks every cake is a 3-d style or tiered. I'll need a stiff drink when I'm done. Getting plenty of sleep now while I can!

Ugh - I feel ya!

I have a wedding cake for 150 due tomorrow, then a sculpted groom's cake and 100 petit fours due (for the same bride) on Sunday.

My problem is, I work 45 hours a week at my day job, and I just don't think I can keep up this pace much longer. I spend every night and weekend in the kitchen, and I'm starting to not enjoy it anymore. Is that a sign I should slow down?

Steph, I'd say slow it down some before you burn out completely. You have a great talent, and looks like you must put your heart into it. My opinion is if it's not your livlihood don't kill yourself with it. I like being as busy as I want to be but I monitor my stress levels prety carefully. We have to take care of ourselves because noone else can do it as well as we can.

Just the one for today, that I just uploaded. None next week, which is okay, since I landed a job doing translations at a fair next week, german, english and chinese, maybe some indonesian, if some of them come. let's see, my feet will be tired enough after 9 hrs of standing every day.

Nine to twelve cakes a weekend? That's amazing! The most I have done was 8 in a weekend. And I've done six twice. My average is one to three. Today was one! All done!

Now, I must chuckle at your screen name ... you're KIDS are killing you? What are your customers doing to you? (How many kids?)

Well, I am done for today. All my cakes are in the refrigerator ready for the final touches tomorrow. It is nice to know that somebody else is doing exactly the same thing at this time somewhere else.
Good night !!!

For those of you averaging several cakes a weekend...how do you get all these!??!

What does everyone use to drum up business?? I go completely by referrals, and my weekends are pretty light. Are these actual bakeries, or home-based bakeries???

Just curious!! Well done, all of you!

I'm a home based business and I'm strictly word of mouth. There are bakeries around but they're either too expensive and just offer simple fare. It seems with cakes here that everyone is trying to outdo the other and they're always looking for the next outrageous or spectacular looking cakes. As for my screenname, yes my kids are killing me but my customers are driving me prematurely gray!

I am a simple amateur! Started cake decorating class back in march and now i can't stop the cake orders. My orders started poping out with my class cake leftovers that my DH and mother in law used to take to their office.
I am going back to work full time soon and I am thinking seriously to get a license next year!!!!

I just have one cake this coming week and on the 16 I have my first wedding cake!!!!
