Ok, I am a newbie and just plain addicted to this website! My cake has flower decorations and i also made bees out of fondant and want to make them appear as if they were flying above the flowers.

I know i have to use wire for this 'special effect', but i don't know if i should just insert the wire in the cake? i'm affraid that the bees will fall over because my cake will not be able to support the weight of the bees.

If you have any ideas, please help! Thank you! :

1st: W E L C O M E!!!

----

wire -- florist wire -- straight precut lenghts -- prepackaged on floral crafts isle at most craft stores and bigger walmarts --

can use coffee stirrer straws pushed into cake first and then wire inside that. (or even regular drinking straw) -- straw helps keep wire from cutting through.

make wire long enough that can insert in deep enough it goes into cake board a bit -- that too will help.

Welcome! Yes it truly is an addiction! Some straws are heavier than others. I have read on threads here McD's are good. As well there is a tea straw that is good. HTH!

For individual wires, I would use plastic coffee stirrers so the wire does not come in contact with the cake. If you don't have those, you can wrap the wire in plastic wrap or aluminum foil before inserting into the cake.
