Hi for the first time I am making a cake with butter BC icing instead of what I have been using Wilton's all shortening recipe, and I thought WOW I thought I didn't like BC icing I just didn't like the one I made before how can some people actually like the Wilton BC recipe?? I made the recipe on this site that calls for 2 sticks of butter but one cup of shortening and what a difference!!!!! I love it!!!! Is there a buttercream icing out there better than Buttercream Dream!!!!! Well it is in the fridge now for later when I get ready to decorate with it I just thought I let you all know my experience I can't believe all this people that have eaten my cakes have been lying to me!!! that icing is nasty Wilton's BC

I love the Buttercream Dream recipe. That's all I've been using. If you can find it, try using the French Vanilla extract instead of the regular vanilla. Sooooo yummy!

When using butter, does it turn out white? or do you have to tint it white? I've always used a recipe using shortening-not wilton, but similar. Just curious.

At first pretty yellow but after beating it with the sugar and all it's pretty white and buttery!!!!

I never noticed a real yellow tint to mine after I beat it for a while. There might be one if it's set against something white, but I've never tried that to see. Will have to test that.

I've used the part butter and part crisco but found it too soft.

I still like the consistency of all Crisco. But I only use 1 cup of crisco instead of 2.

I'll post a picture when I'm done so you can see the color but since my cake does not require white white icing it really doesn't matter to me

Does buttercream dream work well for making flowers and such?

Here's a picture of it against a white envelope and yes, it has a bit of a yellow tint to it. Keep in mind though that I don't use the clear vanilla extract either, sothat is probably where a significant amount of the color is coming from.

I also dont like the wilton book b/c I love half butter/half shortening....not sure if its the same as buttercream dream...will have to look. The slightly offwhite color does not bother me and its on all the cakes in my photos (they arent great cakes) but can give you some idea of color.

my recipe has a tiny bit of milk and a tiny bit of heavy whipping cream and the lady who gave me the recipe said it was fine out 3 or 4 days...now I have never tested that theory...cake never lasts that long around here...2 days max....but I have never had a problem with it. Mine also crusts, but I really need to check out the dream recipe and see how close it is to mine.

mine is pretty close though mine is 50/50 butter/shortening and a bit less dairy...2 TBS whipping cream, 2 TBS milk......

honestly I am not sure why its ok to be out of the fridge....but it seems fine to me...got the recipe off the Wilton Forums but I guess that doesnt prove that its "right" or correct.

I just tried the 1/2 and 1/2 recipe with milk and really like it compared to the reg. Wilton icing. It seemed pretty white to me, but I also used the clear fake vanilla stuff...

I'm not an expert but apparently the high amount of fat and sugar acts as a preservative so it's fine to sit out a few days with that small of an amount of dairy in it. I've done that and have never had a problem with it.

I frost my christmas cookies with an all butter and a small amount of cream buttercream and the cookies have set out for however long they last four or five days for the funny looking ones. There has never been a spoilage problem.

My recipe is similar, but uses only whipping cream and no milk. It is so fluffy with just the right sweetness and I can just eat it by the spoon! icon_razz.gif I made Buttercream Dream this week and didn't like it nearly as much as my usual recipe. But....I'm just starting to dabble in decorating (have been baking for ages) and won't start my Wilton I class until October, so I can't say how the piping ability (especially roses) will compare.

I am probably going to be singled out here but I actually like wiltons buttercream!! Of course that is the only thing I have ever tried. But this buttercream dream looks fantastic, so I am going to try that next. Is wiltons chocolate buttercream any good?

Try substituting 1/2 of the crisco with butter in that Wilton chocolate buttercream recipe. It is delicious!

ok what is this bc dream icing recipe? also i always add a little more vanilla flavoring than what the recipe calls for and i almost always add almond flavoring. the almond adds a richness to it that my people love. try using other flavors too. most times these will have to be artificial. ive used the raspberry and cinnamon. these are awesome with chocolate.
