Okay, I want to do a cake for my local fair. I can only one cake, only one divison. The judges will be eating the cake, so I don't want to do fondant. Also, it can't have any inedible decorations....so this means no ribbon or fresh flowers. The only flowers I can make are Calla Lillies.

How would calla lilles look on a chocolate cake with white scroll work and white lilles? Or make a cream colored cake with white scroll design and calla lilles? Any other ideas would be great! Thanks!

I think the white lillies on the chocolate cake would look very elegant.

Here is a dummy cake I iced the front of to see how this would look. I think the chocolate needs to be darker, almost black. What do you guys think?

I think it is lovely, but I know what you mean when you say the chocolate needs to be darker...not black but still darker. Good luck!!!!

It is a good design, but I also agree, darker chocolate to really enhance the design.

What do you think about adding a monogram to the front center on the middle cake? I'm thinking a oval with a small bead border around it.

yay na or do I need to come up with a different design all together??

Personally I'm not crazy about brown colored cakes they just dont seem to catch my eye as much as a colored cake would.
I think more along the lines of a nice pastel green or a lovely lilac or even a nice cream the color of the inside of the flower. I agree a monogram would also be nice. Just my opinion

A monogram would be lovely! For a really dark chocolate icing recipe try the one on the back of the Hershey's can. It's very loovely dark colour and VERY good!

I think this design looks lovely. Have you thought of making your Calla Lilies a color instead though. Maybe a pale pink and have your accents be pink as well on a nice dark chocolate. You could add an extra sparkle by using some petal dust on the flowers and luster or pearl dust on the accents in a matching color. Just a couple ideas.

The chocolate syrup recipe on this site comes out nice and dark. Or use the extra dark hersheys cocoa in your normal recipe for a super dark color. I used the chocolate syrup recipe made with the extra dark cocoa in this cake and didn't have to add any brown coloring:

Here's a link to one that I like. Of course you would have to omit the ribbons and maybe add some other designs to compensate:

I can't get them to work either.

Euphoriabakery, I like that cake.

I had thought about changing it to guilting and pearls on the bottom, swirls on the middle with the mongram, but the top tier is the one I can't figure out. Would you just do dots on top? I don't want to repeat the quilting because I'm going to another shape, square then the rounds.

You can also search for Calla lily and get a bunch of pics. I guess it can be spelled either way.

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&meta=search&type=full&search=calla+lily

or cala lily
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&meta=search&type=full&search=cala+lily

You can try other combos of spellings as well

How about having the top have dots in a teardrop pattern going around like I did on the bottom tier of this cake:

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=30728

Or you could just have the top tier match the pattern on the middle tier so the rounds are the same.

I think the darker chocolate idea would work great. I wouldn't use white for decorations but an off white. If I were gonna put a monogram on it, I would put it on an oval possibly using the chocolate color for the lettering. and minimal, if any, decorations on the tier with the monogram.

I can't wait to see the finished item!

I think using dots in a pattern would look nice on the top tier.
