Tonight I am going to make my first attempt at covering a hexagon shaped cake with fondant. Anyone have any good tips for me? I have covered oval, round and topsy turvy styrofoam, but for some reason the sharp corners scare me.
Any advice would be well appreciated!!!

I have never covered a hexagon but I have covered a square. The corners are NO different than covering a round. You just have to keep lifting it up and adjusting it until it looks smooth. I was really intimidated my first time too but it was a breeze. Just one thing, don't let your buttercream coat get too 'set' or it can tear on a sharp corner. Make sure it is still somewhat squishy before you try to fondant it.
Hexagons are pretty easy because the rule of thumb is to start with the corners--and there are lots of them!
Do the top and then each of the 6 corners on a tier first and then ease in the extra fondant between two corners by flaring the bottom edge of the fondant away from the tier and then smoothing from the top to the bottom, carefully easing the excess down without pulling or stretching.

I've never covered a Hexagon, BUT i have covered
a six petal/scallop cake.. I find them easier to cover than a square.
It had no folds at all. So I hope it would be the same thing for Hexagon.. ![]()
