Ok I know I know it's way early to think about Christmas LOL- but my sister was over yesterday and saw all my molds/pans etc stacked in a huge box and said she was going to get me some organizers balblabla- so that led me to thinking as I was walking to work, wouldnt it be cool if there were gift registries like at Walmart LOL. But the problem with that is some people shop early/randomly for gifts and might buy something for ya way in advance and then you get it for yourself and you get double. Sooo then I thought well gift certificates- I KNOW what I Need to get and if I dont get it myself first then I'll wait until Christmas/Bday and see what I Get-
I noticed a lot of you posted elsewhere what you have gotten for Christmas etc- and I'm wondering if you tell people what you need for cake deco stuff? A lot of the stuff I already own are 'staples' I need- the things I WANT to splurge on that at any given moment I'm too cheap to spend on, are things like different molds and cookie cutter shapes.

Do you guys find that you have well-meaning relatives/friends who get you cake stuff that you end up already having? Or do you more tend to have thoughtful friends/relatives who know where you shop (cause you told them lol) and they get you gift cards?

I'm looking at candyland.com and cookiecutter.com as 2 examples of places that sell gift certificates- and I'm thinking of spreading those types of places around people I know - so I get what I want (certificates- and they know I'll put it to good use).

How do you handle that? Do you tell everyone, go to these sites and get me gift certificates? It's not like I'm in the business of decorating- it's a hobby- but everyone family/friends knows Im big into it. So I just dont want to say 'hey since you're getting me something for Christmas can you get me a gift cert at so and so?' cause well that sounds cheesy LOL

I would wait untill they ask, personally. If they ask, then sure, tell them where you like to get your cake stuff, then let them decide. If you do get a double of something, I'm sure they would understand an exchage. icon_smile.gif I just feel funny announcing what I want for a gift before being asked.

If they ask tell! My Grandma only buys gift certificates as gifts and she always asks where we would like them to be for. She is getting me a Hobby Lobby GC for my birthday in a few days thumbs_up.gif
One thing about getting duplicate cake items, couldn't you just exchange them for what you would really like?

I agree about mentioning it before the gift is offered- I find that tacky- which is why I'm asking what you all do re gift certificates- how to bring that subject up without bring it up if that makes sense LOL.

Re duplicates: exchanges work if it's a local store but none of my local stores (cept for the tiny hobby store which has pretty much jack ****) have any cake deco stuff. Exchanging from online stores makes no sense to me as then I'm forking out for shipping/customs charges to send something back and then probably paying shipping charges for the new item too. It's not that I'm cheap, re it being a gift in the first place, but I'm not rolling in dough and the idea behind getting me something is to make it useful to me because I wouldnt otherwise afford it at the time.

Ok so I'll probably just post the links to my favourite stores on my links/faves page on my family website- then I dont have to come right out and say 'shop here' LOL- I dont expect or assume anyone will get me anything- I'm not really good at receiving gifts in the first place- which you can tell probably if I want to just scratch normal procedure and say listen if you get me something this is what I need LOL
