I don't charge a delivery fee for wedding cakes within a certain area (and I haven't had to go outside the area yet). Since gas is so expensive, I am thinking of charging - what do you do?
i am so glad you posted this!! i do not do wedding cakes but do deliver and i know i want to charge (gas....ouch)....but i dont know how much!!?? i am very curious to see how people respond!!
I do not charge for delivery in the city limits of the town I live in but the town i live in is not huge. I do however charge for delivery outside the limits 50 cents per mile ROUND trip. I haven't had anyone complain about. Do so investagating about it though call your compatition and find out what they do. I do use the delivery charge as a discount. For example if i feel it will make or break the deal I will give them free or discounted (depending on the milage) delivery only on a large order. For the most part peole do understand that there has to be a delivery charge for long distance. Just don't charge so much people think you are making money off the deal.
Good luck
i dont charge for delivery and i know i should... i live about 45 minutes outside chicago and about 75% of my orders are to be delivered in chicago.
I just started charging a delivery fee. I deliver all of my cakes and gas has just gotten outrageous so I had no choice.
Yes, I have always charged a delivery fee. I used to do considerable business with a local country club, and the woman who had previously done their cakes insisted that I charge $10.00 for this service. It was never questioned or complained about. (Maybe because it was an exclusive country club, and the members didn't care how much something cost.)
