Okay, got a call from my father who has been very ill lately, asking if I could do a nurse cake. He has the district nurse call on him nearly everyday and he wants me to make her a cake to say thank you for all she has done. Sweet man, sweet idea..

Okay here is where you guys come in the nurses head keeps tipping back, I have a toothpick that goes right through the body and half way through the head. I realise my proportions are way out, she would need her own nurse if her head was really that big! icon_wink.gif

Every time I make a figure they look chubby, I dont know where I go wrong. I havent got time to change her now but would be interested for the future.

Can anyone suggest anything else to make as supplies Im running out of ideas. All comments, suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks
LL

Lovely cake! I think sugar figures are bound to look a bit chubby unless they're lying down as you couldn't get a stick thin one to stand up (most skinny pop stars seem to have trouble with this too.) For the supplies how about a bed pan, a blood pressure cuff, a bottle of medicine next to a spoon, a pair of scissors, a tub of ointment?

Well, I like her, and from what I see in the picture, she is not chubby.

If her head is falling back, you may want to use as many toothpicks as you can fit in the connection area, and angle them to point forward, toward you, so they anchor at the angle you want it to stay.

The second photo shows me what you are talking about. She is not actually chubby, as she is sitting down, but it wouldn't hurt to give her some boobs and a waistline. That would trim her down a bit. Also, her back angles outward. Next time, form the skirt to go straight down.

He he thought about all my mistakes with her throughout the night was awake at 4am finally got up at 5am. Have decided to make another one! I have a guitar birthday cake to do today so will attempt nurse number 2 tonight.. its nearly midday here. I am sooooo tired.

My husband thinks my cake decorating hobby has given me an obsessive compulsive disorder! Surly I am not the only one who goes to sleep thinking about cakes. And then wakes up with the same thoughts????????

i think the nurse looks great as is. if you want to make her stonger, think about trying this. make an internal structure or frame to build her around. this would mean having to re-think how you go about making her. also try lightening her head by using a styrofoam center and anchoring her head with a skewer all the way through her body and maybe in to the cake. i found the best results come with a combo of both of those. internal structures can be made of wire or skewers and hot glue.

Looks cute! The nurse will love it! For supplies, how about making a big syringe with a long needle... ouch!

I don't think she is chubby. The whole cake is very artistic and original.
I like that. icon_smile.gif

I read on here recently about sticking a straw through the center of the body and then sticking the tooth pick into the straw. I think it was part of a tutorial.

Use two toothpicks otherwise the head will spin around a la Linda Blair in the "Exorcist".
