Hi, all ~
Just wondering what most of you do when transporting a wedding cake: do you put it together and transport it that way or do you transport ea. cake separate and then put it together at the site? I have my first cake next Saturday, it is a 4-tiered cake - 16", 12", 8", and 5". Not sure what would be the best...
Thanks,
Julie
well, i think you'll get an array of answers on this topic. You can actually do a search for this topic as this has been talked about a lot. I, personally, like to put together on site because cakes can be heavy and it just gives me piece of mind. Good luck!
Are they stacked cakes or all seperated by columns? If they are stacked, you could go ahead and put the 12 on the 16 and put your border on, then you could stack the 5 on the 8. Carry them seperately, then you would just have to put the 8 and 5 that are together on the top of the 12 and finish on site with your borders. You can do all your side design work ahead. Just keep in mind that the 16 and 12 will be heavy. Make sure you have a good solid board on the bottom. If they are all with columns, transport seperately and put together on site. Make sure you transport on non-skid mats, whether they are in boxes or not.

I prefer to transport them separately and assemble on site. It's less stressful for me that way.
Me too! Plus, they can get REALLY heavy if you transport them stacked. I am such a clutz, I worry about dropping them. ![]()
Congratulations on your 1st wedding! You'll have separation anxiety when you leave it. ![]()

Me too...only in my case, there is no shop...
If you assemble stacked at home/shop..make sure you have a dowel that goes thru from the top of the cake right to the bottom and into the cakeboard...you don't want that baby to move or slide.
depends on the cake. if it is a simple 2 or 3 layer stacked straight then it usually goes to the site totally together. anything that can be ruined in transit gets put together at the site. either way i always have some supplies with me to fix anything that can go wrong!
