Hi,

I plan on making my co-worker a cake for his last day...he got a new job. We work in radio. I thought of something with a microphone...but knowing my luck, it might look like something pornographic! icon_eek.gif Any ideas? Keep in mind...I am a NEWBIE!!

thanks!

How about using the Wilton slot machine pan and decorating it like a radio. Find out what the company logo/colors are and incorporate those in some fun and interesting manner.

icon_biggrin.gif How ironic that I log onto cakecentral to figure out a cake to make my co-worker on his last day and I see your posting! Although I'm not in radio,.

How about decorating a cake with the radio station call letters, or cutting out a large sheet cake into the call letters, then icing them?

good ideas! I think drawing a microphone might be easier for me though since I don't have much experience. I could do a "mic flag" (the box-type thing right below the part the person speaks into) where I could put the call letters.

Would you put the name of our company/call letters on the cake or the new call letters of the station he's going to? I'm thinking my other co-workers might be annoyed if we had a competing station on there!

I too thought about that in my situation as the person is leaving to go to a competing organization. I would stick with what would make everyone comfortable and go with the current station call letters. You don't want to rub in the fact that he/she is leaving to go to a competitor. icon_wink.gif

I was looking at "bee" cakes to play up on the theme of "you will be missed"...

Have you searched the gallery in here for "music". I just did and there are some cute cakes.

What genre of music is your station? Maybe you can play up on that?

Another idea - Pattern Transefer:

go to google, type in the work "radio clip art" or "music clip art", "microphone clip art" or something similar. Once you find a clip art piece with not a lot of detail (mostly just lines) like a coloring book would be, print it as big as you can, or use the copier at your work to blow it up to cake size.

Put wax paper on top of the clip art, trace the clip art with piping gel, then place the traced wax paper (gel facing the cake) onto the iced cake. The piping gel will act as a "pattern", then you can just pipe in lines of icing as your outline and use a star tip to fill in the "pattern".

good idea. I have not done a thorough search yet (I'm working right now icon_surprised.gif ) but I'll try to later.

We actually are a radio news wire service, so we don't do music...we are news reporters.

will check out the clip art though.

I also thought of doing our company logo, which is super simple, but it is two colors...red and black! I ordered some red Americolors, but haven't received it yet, and CC has no black of course, so that is out. my husband said, "why can't you do it in pink and blue?" and I think he was half-serious....!!

thanks again!

Hey..what about playing off the news reporter thing (and a fairly recent movie)...edward r. morrow...

Just put, "Good night...and good luck" on the cake.
