How do you do pillars & plates when the cakes are covered in fondant? My concern is inserting the pillars into the fondant & it looks bad. Thanks in advance icon_sad.gif

If you mean push-in pillars, here's what I do, because I'm afraid pushing them into the fondant will ruin the perfect surface.

Lightly touch the separator plate onto the fondant-topped cake to BARELY leave a mark where each pillar will be inserted.

Then take a small paring knife and use just the very sharp tip to carefully cut and remove a little round out of the fondant, same diameter as the pillar where the pillar will go, then insert the pillar, and voila--no pushed-in, messed up fondant. Works perfectly. I also do this when I'm inserting floral picks--cut a hole first for sure.

On the push-ins, if you see a gap in the fondant where your hole may have been too big, you can pipe tiny dots around the pillar once it's inserted to cover the gaps.
