I have seen these really cute sofa shaped cakes. Could anybody tell me how I could make this? Are they sculpted from one big cake or are they different assembled pieces?
Here's an example of one such cake

I made one where I used different cake pieces for the seat, back and armrest.

The cake in your link is from one of Debbie Brown's books.

Thank you very much for your replies. Another related question I should've asked in the same post is ' do you cover the cake with one piece of fondant (I imagine this would make it tear) or do you coved the back, arm-rests and the seat seperately.' Thank you icon_smile.gif

depending upon type of fondant and skill level could do either.

one piece requires more skill and a good stretchy fondant. could even leave it a bit loose and ruffled and untucked on the bottom for a slipcover look.

piecing it would work too -- just lots more cutting and trimming. -- the could easily hide seams by piping on RI in a darker color to make it look like the piping they use in upholstery (like in example cake)

I find that I get a better look when I cover the pieces separately. There is more definition on each of the pieces. I tuck the ends/seams so it looks like the real one.
