With the laser, I just usually set it on something firm that will raise it above cake level (a tupperware bowl or container), so that I can see the line on the cake. I also saw somewhere that a levelor can be used to mark a straight line on the side of a cake when torting a cake...

kbenz ...... Great idea about the laser level! We have several of those kicking around the house. I never thought about using them for that! Thanks!

Your cakes look nice !!! I'm wondering - on the cake with the fire logo and fire hydrant, what is it that's on the outer edge of the cake (in red, outside the border) ???
