Covering Cake With Ganache

i want to do the pour method. i havent used ganache in this way before. can i ice the cake with buttercream first then pour the ganache? i want the smooth look. or do i just pour the ganache over the plain cake?

You can do it either way. I place a thin layer of buttercream on my cake first.

I would "seal" the cake first with a thin layer of bc to smooth and fill in any gaps between the layers. Let it crust and then pour over the ganache!
