I have to do a b-day cake and the client wants stars somewhere/somehow on her cake. I would like to have the stars look like they are "bursting" out of the cake. I want to put fondant stars on wire and stick them down into the cake.

Here is my question- What type of wire do I need to use to do this and where can I get it from? I want the kind that you can give a bit of a bend but still sturdy enough to stand up in the cake.

Thanks!
Rhonda

You should use florist wire which can be purchased at craft stores or florist supply stores. The guage you purchase is based on how heavy your decorations are and how much bend you want.

I bought mine at walmart in the floral section, it either comes wrapped on a spool or in in sticks in a plastic bag, which I preferred because I could bend and cut it to size... HTH... it is fun to work with and it make things so neat looking. If you worry about it being a hazard just wrap the ends in fondant or melt chocolate over it and let set before inserting into your cake!

I use picture frame wire from Home Depot. It is strong yet can be bent easily to any shape that I want. If you are putting stars on the end of the wire, make the stars and lay them flat, place the end of the wire on the star and use a bit of RI then a strip of fondant to cover the wire. Leave over night to dry. This is sturdy. (I wrap the end that goes into the cake with florial tape and insert).

That sounds easy enough. All this time I was concerned it would be a difficult task.

Thanks!
