I am baking a 6 inch round and 2 4inch rounds for a girl at work. She is getting married and just wants the 6 inch for her and her husband. The 2 4inch ones are for their kids...(little kids 2) Just wants choc ck with choc bc with white scrolls. I told her 25 for the cakes. Did I charge enough?
I'd say it sounds a little light - but I guess it depends on how they're decorated. If this is a good friend, and $25 covers your ingredients and supplies and you're still making money, then you might be doing the right thing especially if she's on a budget (from the sounds of it!)
I believe that, since it is someone from work, you already know how much you are able to charge her without thinking you are gouging her. Just tell her that $25 is "Her" price, and that other people would have to pay more for the cakes. It's just 3 little cakes, and it's not like she is asking for a lot of work on them.
Ok, members, what would you charge for these cakes? Would I be guessing right if I said about $30-35?
Theresa
I'd have charged $40 for a total stranger....$30-35 sounds right for a coworker, unless she's a good friend, in which case it'd be $25 just like sundine2's situation (this would be "her" price!)
It sounds like she might be paying for the wedding themselves. The fact they have kids (or one of em does) makes me think that. I think $25 is a good price. I would definately know it's HER price so others dont think they can get it at that price. A simple sheet cake would run about the same price so I think for anyone else, $35 is more in the realistic price range.
I have so many people that I charge specially, like family and friends. Just tell her not to spread the word and you'll be fine. I have found that most of my family and friends now pay what I charge, because they konw it's worth it. Also, she'll remember that you looked out for her and order from you again.
She is just a co worker. I work nights and she works day shift. I am a Nurse in my moneypaying job. I just spoke out a bit to quickly but she does make me laugh so I think 25 for her is ok. I will probably make her cakes the same time I make my grandbaby's first birthday cake. That way the oven is on already and I will be in the "cake groove".
Hey Dustbunny...did I ask you where in Indiana you are? I live in Richmond but work in Indianapolis.
Sundine-yep we have talked, I'm in Marion. My brother recently moved from Richmond to Muncie.
I am planning a trip to Country Kitchen in Fort Wayne really soon thanks to you lol, never heard of them until your post ![]()
Good luck with the cake & and your grandbaby's 1st cake, how exciting that must be ![]()
Oh Dustbunny!....you are going to love Country Kitchen. It is so nice and big and CLEAN! You can buy all kinds of things. If you spend 100 you get a 10% discount which is not fantastic but it is a nice surprise. You can buy boxes and boards in bulk which is great too.
I love CK and all the goodies they have. Glenbrook Mall is just around the corner too so plan to do some shopping while there. Check out ICES too. Vi Whittington is the Indiana Rep. Her daughter Autumn Carpenter is big on cookies. She has written several books on them. They also have classes up there at the shop too.
Have fun!
