You can cover it in buttercream, too, if you feel more comfortable doing that.

the decorations are all from fondant, so I would prefer fondant, but if i don't get any other ideas, I guess I will have to.

There really aren't too many cuts or curves, I would do it one of 2 ways:

Put the house up on a coffee can or a stand. Add your buttercream layer so the fondent will stick. Drape the fondent over the eintire house letting it hang down. With your hands, smooth the fondent into all the curves and angles. You'll be surprised how easy fondent will mold to the buttercream. Cut off the excess at the bottom and smooth it under the best you can.

OR

Lay the house on it's back. Add your buttercream layer to the upside and lay your fondent over that. Smooth it with your hands and then trim the excess. Pick the house up, turn it to the backside and buttercream. Cut a piece of fondent, stick it up to the back and trim with scissors. To hide lines you can add decoration.

Regarding the second choice, I did learn the other day on Ace of Cakes that every cake does have a "back"! icon_biggrin.gif

Now remember, I am a newbie, so go easy. If there is a pro out there that has a better idea, go with that. I have only made 3 cakes so far! haha!

Good Luck and post some pics when you finish!

darthburn: thanks!! this (#2) is actually what i did, before reading your post!! It really worked beautifully, but now i'm having another problem- it's not standing up, i.e. collapsing. will finish other things around the house and then i will tackle that.
