I attempted to use Wilton Shimmer Dust for the first time and I don't know what I am doing wrong. I attempted to add some dust to some vodka and paint it on gumpaste flowers. Well I am thinking I should have just drank the vodka instead. It didn't look shimmery and pretty, it was more like a pee yellow mess. Then I attempted to make a belly button ring (for a bikini cake) with gumpaste and I just dipped it in the shimmer dust. That didn't work either. I just piped the belly ring on. What is everyone using to get that beautiful gold color on their pieces of work?

For some gold coins in a cake I did, I used radiant gold luster dust from CC, painted it on wet using orange extract. Here's the link to the luster dust: http://shop.cakecentral.com/radiant-gold-luster-dust-p-1992.html

Wilton's Shimmer Dust is not like all the other dust out there. It is not made to be mixed with liquid. To use it you will wet the area you want it, then sprinkle it on. It is more of a cross between sprinkles and the dusts.

If you do not have a local cake store and don't want to order online or need it sooner, Wilton has come out with Pearl Dusts. This can be brushed on dry or mixed with vanilla or alcohol. They currently have 6 colors.
