I add a drop of bleach to my saopy water to help cut the grease on the tips and bowls, approx 1tsp to gal, but I don't do it to my bags. I'm afraid the bleach will made the bags weaker.

Oh my goodness I make SUCH a mess! I also use the parchment bags. Definately a time saver on the clean up. What I usually do is put everything in the sink with HOT HOT HOT water and dishsoap and let it soak for a GOOD long while! I dont think that there's any way to avoid the mess. *sigh*
Ya know, I've placed an order for the clean up fairies to visit my house YEARS ago but there must be a LONG waiting list cuz them lil buggers have YET to show up... dang it all!!! lol

Hey guys, guess what!!!! I got my girls to clean up the kitchen after a whole bunch of cooking tornadoes went off while getting ready for our Labor DAy bbq. I promised them a couple of dollars, a fun project with frosting this week during school (I homeschool), and the oldest one spending a couple of nights with grandmama and granddaddy. Of course Catharine will get most out of it because she is doing most of it, but Cristin is wiping up the floor and table. Yea me!!!!!!!

Ursula, I was just joking! Not really moving to Asia. icon_smile.gif Just dreaming about your cheap hired help.

Back to tips; I'm afraid I don't have many, except that like lots of others, I believe in joy dishwashing detergent and hot, hot, hot water. (And the dishwasher of course.)

What a pity, here I was actually hoping, that someone would move out into my neck of the woods. Would have been too good to be true, sniff.

The hot water hose and drain thing made me laugh! When I was 16 I worked at a Jack-in-the-Box and that's what we actually had. It was awesome! Ever since then, for many years I have wished for one in my home....

Maybe someday? icon_lol.gif

Hot water and Dawn works great. I really don't like to clean as I go - my hands get really hot from the hot water and then my icing gets too soft icon_lol.gif Also, I love to use the parchment paper pags.

1. Clean as you go
2. Microwave tips 2 mins covered with soapy water
3. DISHWASHER DISHWASHER DISHWASHER icon_smile.gif
4. Those new Lysol wipes are great for quick, sanitary cleanups

I wish I had more ideas!

My best cleaning tip is to get your hubby or kids to do it. I act all tired and worn out. My hubby is soooooooo great, that he starts cleaning up after me. He always tells me that he's not touching any of my cake stuff, but he seems to touch it when he sees how tired I am from staying up until 2am every weekend.

I keep a sink of hot soapy water and fill up that dishwasher. I've found that a quick rinse in hot soapy water with a scrubbing sponge quickly removes the excess frosting/grease enough to go into that dishwasher for a quick clean. I also clean as I go by keeping that garbage can drawer open...that way I don't have tons of stuff laying around and I can actually see my countertop. I do the canning jar of hot water method for my tips with soapy water and then use the mesh bag in the dishwasher as well. I'm sort of a clean freak and tend to over-do-it.

I avoid powder sugar plumes by adding my liquid to the bowl and then hand mix the PS in the bowl until it is mostly wet...takes 6 seconds. Then put the bowl int he KA and while the flat beater is moving on slow speed I slowly raise the bowl into the up position. NO PS CLOUDS and no PS on my ceiling fan!

Oh...also bribe my DH with treats in exchange for work...
he's a dessert swine!

Thanks for sharing your cleaning tips everyone.
I like the idea of the drain in the floor to just spray everything down. LOL

I hang a plastic grocery bag on the cabinet door next to my mixer. Into this bag goes powdered sugar bags, butter wrappers, egg shells, etc. I also buy styrofoam bowls to mix all my icing colors, so that when I'm done, I can just throw the bowls away. I mix my colors with plastic spoons too. I use disposable decorating bags and just cut the bag close to the coupler when I'm done. I scrape all the leftover icing out of my KA mixing bowl and put some DAWN and super hot water in it. Throw everything into the bowl, let it sit until the water is cool. I come back later and pour all the water out and by then, everything has melted off. It's then very easy to clean up.
