I have an order for next week for a staked wedding cake 12in chocolate mud 9in white chocolate mud cake and 6in cheesecake has anyone stacked mud cakes before heard it can be very heavy and any special instructions for stacking or the same a usual with dowels. This is for a couple from Austrialia visiting in Canada and having there wedding here. I was sent some recipes from a baker friend of theirs. I have never made mud cakes before.

We stack and tier them. I use hardwood butchers' skewers and 1/4" thick wooden cake boads -no cardboard cakeboards and no plastic straws/skewers.

I have done the same as Auzzi and never had a problem. If anything I love the way stack because they are so dense they hold the shape so much better.

90% of all the wedding cakes i have made have been mudcakes. I use wooden or plastic skewers and thick cardboard boards in between. They hold up beautifully. This is the last one i did just yesterday. It weighed half a ton!! but it held up just fine. (10-8-6 inch squares)

PS: I actually used straws for this one, i used 5 straws per tier, and it seemed to hold up just fine. I wouldnt recommend it for any tiers larger than 10 inch, as i havent tried it, and dunno if it would work with the weight of a mudcake.
